What to Expect

Sangiovese's claim to fame is its role as the heart of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscan wines though it is gaining ground as a varietal wine around the globe. When grown in a suitable location the grape's soft tannins, succulent acidity and moderately intense cherry and herb flavors make Sangiovese very easy to drink as well as supremely versatile at the dinner table.

Editorial Reviews

This opens immediately with a very fine nose, complex and balanced with a bit of wood but integrated with lots of liquory fruit, smokey and a touch gamey, excellent aromatics. In the mouth this is round and lush with good acid and very fine tannic structure, a classic medium weight mouthfeel, like a kite in the mouth with tannin and acid spars supporting a billowing. airy fruit. Dark berry notes dominate the midpalate but there are interesting forest floor and porcini notes that add interest and a bit of toasted hazelnut on the backend which is joined by bright bitter cherry fruit and a touch of espresso read more...

Full of roasted strawberry notes on the nose with a soft, sweet floral note and hints of tar, light earth, and fading spices adding complexity. In the mouth this is polished and plush with modest intensity of cranberry and roasted strawberry fruit. The tannins are nice and crisp and poke out a bit on the long finish which shows incipient notes of tobacco and bitter greens. A touch soft and diffuse but still showing well. 90pts

"Tight and powerful. Slightly rough, yet racy. Attractive aromas of dried cherries, berries and lilacs. Full body. Silky tannins. Long, slightly austere finish. Give this time, please. Best after 2003...93." WS 10/00

Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 91, July/August 2000 Deep, solid ruby-garnet. Powerful in aroma, with notes of tobacco, tar, damp earth and vanilla. Full, intense flavors are nonetheless tightly wound and in need of bottle aging. Powerful tannins upholster the palate. Dense and concentrated on the finish.

Red berries, definitely smell the age on this one, some leather. Very smooth taste with some red berries. Probably my favorite of the night
