Feiler-Artinger Zweigelt 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

Medium-intense nose with red currants and raspberries, still youthful and restless, roasted and smoky oak, vegetal as well as some mineral notes. Firm and very cool in the mouth, elegant acidity with good presence, almost slightly steely style, integrated oak and fine tannins with good presence, strong mineral notes on the palate, firm, concentrated and deep, still largely undeveloped, persistent, long finish.

I am not too sure about the soft tannins. I found the tannins to be quite stringent. Perhaps because I drank it 5 days after hand-carrying from Munich to Singapore on a flight. I was somewhat disappointed as it was touted as one of the better Austrian examples of this variety.

Sehr dunkles Purpur mit violetten Reflexen. In der Nase und im Geschmack sehr typisch nach reifen, dunklen Kirschen, viel Frucht, fester Körper, elegant, mit feinen Tanninen im fruchtigen Abgang.

The Feiler-Artinger winery was established in Rust in the early 1900 and 3rd generation winemaker Kurt Feiler gives us a classic Zweigelt that shows fruit, Floral and blueberry on the nose, spice, elegance and a softness of tannins that makes it a perfect food-pairing red.
