What to Expect

Port wine is one of the great dessert wines of the world. Based on a blend that usually features Touriga Nacional, vintage Port is a rich red wine witch is fortified with grape spirits. It combines the chewy, tannic bite of red wine with a sweetness that helps buffer the added alcohol and supports the spicy plum and dark berry fruits. Vintage Port is capable of aging and improving for decades. Other types of Port include Ruby Port, which is enjoyed in its youth for it fresh fruit, Tawny Port, which has been aged in wood for years giving it its tawny color and progressively nuttier flavors as the wine increases in age, and Colheita port, which is a Tawny Port from a single vintage.

On the mouth It has a nice body, although alcohol is still over the top, showing it´s unbalanced. I believe It was a flaw of this bottle of wine particularly, because I´ve tasted better samples of it, where alcohol could be felt, like in porto (it´s from the same region), but very pleasantly. On the nose alcohol could be sensed the same way, also aromas of mellon, lime, orange, raisings and especially almonds. It´s a nice wine but this sample was damaged.
