Dark and earthy on the nose with notes of caramel, tobacco, cocoa, leather and chalk over roasted fruit. Smooth on entry with acidity that is just a touch low by Rioja standards, this is smooth and silky with flavors that are a bit simple. The texture will be very appealing to a broad range of consumers as will the simple vanilla, cherry and toast flavors, but this lacks complexity and detail for me. Ends rather abruptly with a leather, almond and cherry pit finale and dry tannins. 85pts

A somewhat smokey yet stinky nose. Wonderfully aromatic. On the palate, it's a big wine. Quite intense, heavy fruit only slightly let down by being a little hot on the back. A very decent effort all round though.

This wine is not one of my favorites. The nose was pleasant and extremely complex, with notes of oak, maple, misty air, damp soil, and mushrooms. The taste, similar to mushrooms. The flavor was bland and simple. I would recommend this wine with a light pasta with Italian sausage, but more of a pesto for sauce. This is more of a spring wine as a transition from the winter crisp white wines to the full bodied reds in the summer. This wine makes an excellent spritzer or as a cider in the winter.

Wow, what a nose! An exceptionally attractive scent, almond and Carmel with a great complexity. The taste is a bit off as its really not what you expect. Sharp tannins with a bit of acid to the front of the tongue. A good wine, but not worthy of the favorites list.

In this Reserva, Faustino has created a wine that is loyal to the flavors of traditional Rioja. A pretty, herbal bouquet gives way to a mouthful of red berries. On the finish, a burst of tangy acidity reminds us that true Rioja is made for food.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine expresses ripe fruit, clove, and cocoa with leather and cedar notes. It is medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish.

Tasting Notes:

While the Faustino Gran Reserva is pure old-school Rioja, Faustino Reservas have more fruit than the Rioja Reservas of old, befitting an evolving mindset, combining tradition with modernity. The wine opens with vanilla and toast, and moves on to red cherries with strawberries, even red raspberries, and a gentle toasty finish.

The wine expresses ripe fruit, clove, and cocoa with leather and cedar notes. It is medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish.
