Faustino Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva V 2004
Color: Bright, intense cherry-red with a tawny rim. Aroma: Intense, with fine toasty notes from the oak and hints of red berries against a light background of stewed fruit. Notes of vanilla and spices contributed by the oak during cask aging. Palate: Round, velvety and meaty with a lovely integration of the sweet tannins from the grapes and those from the wood, resulting in a smooth yet robust wine.
I had this wine for the first time tonight. I instantly could smell the aroma of the Oak and it has a robust flavour. I didn't have it with food, and can't wait to try it with Steak. I feel like I am drinking a good Chianti with this wine. I found it to be good right out of the bottle, but after some breathing time, it was excellent.
rustic earthiness, cedar wood combined with sour red cherries, dried herbal tea leaves
The nose showed dusty potpourri, tomato, black peppercorn and a hint of barnyard. On the palate, I found tight cranberry fruit and fresh soil. A bit one dimensional on the palate but highly enjoyable on the nose.
This was the wine we served at our wedding, and because it's linked to that moment, I'm very fond of it. I am a fan of Rioja wines, so I enjoy the wood and cherry undertones which tend to be shared by many of the wines I've tasted from this region.
Three and a half glasses

In this Reserva, Faustino has created a wine that is loyal to the flavors of traditional Rioja. A pretty, herbal bouquet gives way to a mouthful of red berries. On the finish, a burst of tangy acidity reminds us that true Rioja is made for food.
