Faustino Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva V 2002
Color: Bright, intense cherry-red with a tawny rim. Aroma: Intense, with fine toasty notes from the oak and hints of red berries against a light background of stewed fruit. Notes of vanilla and spices contributed by the oak during cask aging. Palate: Round, velvety and meaty with a lovely integration of the sweet tannins from the grapes and those from the wood, resulting in a smooth yet robust wine.
Dark and meaty. Strong tannins. Cherry and prune notes. (Tasted as part of a marathon at the Wines from Spain trade event.)
Superb bouquet, good tanines, intense aroma, I really enjoyed tasting this reserve 2002
From the wine offered in every bigger grocery shop in Dublin I expected nothing more than unbalanced, alcoholic beverage made of grapes. Once I got the bottle for free it occupied a quiet corner in the kitchen. One night I decided to give it a go and to my surprise my palate experienced a harmonious blend of silky leather, tabacco and ripe plums. Tannins were smooth and the aftertaste left me no other option but to drink another glass. It's not an amazing wine, but for the price you pay for it you can hardly find any better.
Whats happened to Faustino V, I used to love it, now its only good for cooking with!
