Fattoria Selvapiana Supertuscan Blend Toscana IGT Fornace 2007

External Review:

This strong series continues with the 2004 Fornace. A wine of notable character, it possesses layers of vibrant fruit intermingled with tobacco, smoke, licorice and toasted oak. This is another classy wine from Selvapiana, but ideally it needs a few years in bottle before it is ready to offer its finest drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2010andndash;2022.

An intense young red, with black fruit and tight cedar character. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a medium finish. Very woody. Give it some bottle age. Best after 2008.

Winemaker Federico Masseti was given a free hand with the grapes harvested from this revered vineyard in Chianti Rufina. What he has created is nothing short of breathtaking. Ripe, round, seamless, and so elegant, it glides across the palate on velvet slippers. The only wine worthy of comparison is Monsantorsquo;s II Poggio, so great is the depth and intensity of flavor. This is a wine to enjoy with very close friends.

A new, and very good wine from this producer. Plenty of flavors in this one mdash; dried cherry, plum and a hint of vanilla. Medium-bodied with round tannins and a fruity, vanilla finish. Verging on too much new wood, but delicious. Needs time in the bottle to mellow.
