100% Sangiovese Perfumed and floral on the nose, which is filled with aromas of spiced blueberries, minerals, and sweet leather notes. A touch soft, or rather fleshy in the mouth, this is rich with soft, ripe tannins that makes for a bit of a chewy mouthful. There’s plenty of bright cherry and slightly darker berry fruit on the palate that is nicely perfumed and shows fine persistence on the moderately long finish but this shows good power yet not great elegance. 89pts

A wondrous unfolding of hills, none blocking its neighbour, all offering spacious spectra of colour, yellow to indigo, in luminous waves rolling to a horizon majestically profiled with an ancient volcano, Monte Amiata, beloved of the Etruscans, that enigmatic race that first offered the vine and the olive to the early civilization of the Italic peninsula. What a lovely nose, quite herbal, spiky, and complex with a fine blend of dried herbs, hot stones, sweet spices, leather, cranberry and some worcestershire sauce all given added lift by a hint of VA. Sweet yet compact in the mouth with finely ripe but classically angular Sangiovese tannins. With air this gains some weight, and loses a bit of clarity not he palate. It retains a fine blend of wild cherry fruit and earthy nuance that leads to a long, savory finish. 90pts

The 2011 Chianti Classico is absolutely impressive and is one of the best base Chianti Classicos I have tasted from 2011. You feel the ripeness and heat of the vintage, but this wine also delivers surprising finesse and complexity. Black cherry and baking spice mingle on the bouquet. Soft tannins wrap around the palate. Anticipated maturity: 2015–2025.

Vineyard profile:Chianti Classico is the cornerstone of the estates production. The vineyards are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, to the northeast of Siena. Almost exclusively with a southwestern exposure, they sprawl across ventilated slopes at an altitude ranging from 320-420 meters above sea level. Geologically, the terrains are mixed: in the higher parts the soil is predominantly rock quartz and calcareous alberese mixed with alluvial pebbles; strataform sandstone and loam characterize the vineyards on the edge of the Colli Senesi in the direction of the Crete Senesi. The first vintage was 1967. Characteristics:Ruby red with deep intensity and hue. Fruity, fine and elegant aromas dominated by wild berries accompanied by various spicy notes. Fruity on the palate with good tannins and a lingering finish. Vinification:Fermentation temperature between 28-30 c. Maceration time 12-15 days. Automated punching scheduled daily. Racking at the end fermentation and transfer in March-April to medium-capacity Slovenian oak barrels. Barrel-aged12 months, bottle-aged 3 months. - Winery

Readers on a budget will delight in Felsina s 2011 Chianti Classico. Supple resonant and beautifully expressive the 2011 is a clear overachiever. The style is a little juicier than in most vintages but that is not such a bad thing for a wine meant to be enjoyed over the near and medium-term. Ripe red berries cinnamon and freshly cut flowers are layered into the textured finish. What a fabulous wine! Antonio Galloni.

100% Sangiovese from the southern part of Chianti Classico, this wine is open for business now because of the warm vintage. Raised in neutral barrels (botti), so it’s mostly the fruit that does the talking. A bargain at this price in a great wine that could cellar 10+ years.

This wine has an intriguing fragrance of dill violet black fruit white pepper and new oak. The palate is still rather closed but reveals ripe black cherry notes alongside hints of well-integrated oak and mint. It has elegant tannins and ample length to the finish.
