Fattoria del Cerro Vino Nobile Antica Chiusina 2005

Member Review by Eric Guido:

The nose opened up with waves of ripe berries, some dark and some tart, followed by new leather, spices, potpourri and cocoa powder. It showed a medium-bodied with a spine of brisk acidity. Flavors of tart raspberry saturated the palate followed by herbals notes and bitter red fruit. The finish showed a firm structure as grainy tannin tugged at the cheeks with tart berry lingering on the center palate. This wine needs more time but I don’t doubt its ability. In my opinion, it's right where it should be in it's evolution, and will likely be a stunner in another five years. The fruit is intense and focused with balanced acidity and fine grain tannin, which sounds like a recipe for success to me.

The spaciousness and the different exposition of the vineyards allow selecting the best grapes to make high quality wines. Prugnolo Gentile, the grape behind Nobile di Montepulciano, is the clone of Sangiovese, typical of this area, and which, over the course of the centuries, has adapted itself to local growing conditions. Vino Nobile is produced in three different versions: the regular wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.G., the Riserva Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva D.O.C.G., and the single vineyard selection Vino Nobile di Montepulciano "Antica Chiusina" D.O.C.G..
