Fattoria Dei Barbi 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Dark cherry and raspberry aromas follow through to a full body, with loads of chewy tannins and rich fruit. The fruit concentration is impressive, yet this is balanced and in form. Best after 2010. 17,000 cases made. Pre-Sell

[Mediterrono] Tight by concentrated. Sweet, burnt cherry, orange, tannic. Should develop nicely over the next 1-3 years.

Aromas of brown and burnt sugar on the nose gave way to dried red berries. On the palate, this wine was full and beautifully resolved with lush sour cherry fruit made juicy by vibrant acidity. The finish was long and reminiscent of cherries and old spice.

Wonderful berry, strawberry, plum and smoke aromas open to a medium to full body, with well-integrated tannins and a fresh finish. A bright and exciting Brunello. Drink now through 2004.

Barbirsquo;s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino opens with scents of tobacco, underbrush and spices that lead to dark red cherries on the palate. Though medium in body, the wine reveals surprising depth and finessed tannins that give it a terrific sense of proportion. Today the wine remains rather firm and tight, but the raw material seems to be there for this to develop into a gorgeous, rewarding Brunello in a few yearsrsquo; time. Anticipated maturity: 2012ndash;2022.

A very ripe red, with tar and raisins, turning to dried cherries on the nose. Full-bodied and very thick, with a peppery character. Tannic. Slightly rustic, but impressive in its weight and power. Best after 2003.
