Faraud Gigondas Domaine du Cayron Rhone 2005

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from the www.cellartrade.co.uk website.Gigondas is an appellation created in 1971,although wine production in the area goes back to before the Romans, for red and rose wines from around the village of that name in the southern Rhone valley. My bottle comes from a small family concern and consists of 78% grenache,14% syrah,6% cinsault and 2% mourverde and was aged in oak barrels for 12 months.I started the bottle last night with my pasta bake supper. This is a full bodied wine with a dark colour and plenty of blackcurrant, blackberry and bramble style fruit and a slight hint of pepper or spice. It is beautifully structured with soft tannins. In short,I thought this an absolutely exquisite wine that would grace any meal

Domaine du Cayron:
The domaine has been owned by the Faroud family since 1840 and is now run by three sisters of that family,Delphine,Cendrine and Roseline. There are 17 hectares spread over 20 sites across the Gigondas appellation and they vinify and bottle their own wine
