Food Pairings for Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Estate Bottled
Purchased at Winery. Pours a deep dark reddish violet color with some light reddish hues on the edges. Plenty of dark black fruit, plums & blackberries along with some road tar (reminds me of my summer job paving driveways). Hits the palate with lots of plum and blackberry flavors. In the middle some 'tar' flavors, which is a concoction of diesel and tar. On the back end, more dark fuirt, cherries, vanilla and tar. I really enjoy wines with that road tar taste. This is a medium to full bodied red wine that leaves a long lasting taste on the palate.
Expensive California Cab - how I love thee... There's something about it that i've not found elsewhere. I call it fennel/mineral/earthy/fruity - and its wonderful. Back to the tasting notes - Mineral and fruity (black cherry) with beautiful structure. A surprisingly soft wine with great fruits and tannins that just creep up on you. Still has a dry tannic finish - young - but beautiful nonetheless. Awesome - one of my favorite wines ever.

Tastes like velvet! Excellent wine, but a bit pricey for everyday drinking
Got this baby for free from Pete and 1-800-got-junk about 4 or 5 years ago. Apparently some rich wine collector in SeaCliff or something pitched cases upon cases of old wine. We took in about 7 cases or so and found this among some other really good wines ... and some not so good wines (the early 2000s whites were bad). Cracked it in Oct 2012 and I'm really digging it. This is how a great CA wine should be. 13.5% alcohol, a combo of fruit, leather, dust on the nose. A mouthful that is bright, equal parts dried fruit and mineral/earthy with some tannins still hanging around. The color is a little light around the edges but not browner or oxidized at all. Very smooth all around and on the finish. Not a long lingering finsh, but perfect wine to accompany our steak dinner. I suspect this was stored very well. Wish I had a case of this.

Aromas of very dark fruit, black currant, dark chocolate, dust/earth, vanillan and perfume are layered behind the ripeness. The wine provides a big and full entry, yet the tannins are balanced and have an underlying silkiness. On the palate, ripe cassis and spice mingle with well-integrated oak and evolve into a lingering, fruit-driven finish.
The 2004 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet is defined by brooding dark fruit, firm tannins, and layered oak spice components. This wine is extremely age-worthy and will cellar for 10 to 15 years.

Forward aromas of cassis, licorice, anise and tobacco, complemented by notes of black currant, are present on the nose. The plush, silky entry provides an opening to flavors of blackberry and black cherry fruit on the palate, with a dense core of chewy tannin. The fruit darkens on the palate, and notes of toasty oak with an underlying layer of black cherry emerge on the long, sweet finish.
