Fantesca Chardonnay 2006
Winemaker's Notes:
This lovely wine starts like a tropical breeze. Typical to the Fantesca Chardonnays of the past, this white exudes fresh scents of grapefruit, hints of lime and fresh cut pineapple. There is also a sweet vanillin barrel overtone that gives added warmth to the aromatics. The same fresh citrus in the nose is there in the palate, delivering crisp, clean and refreshing fruit flavors with minarality similar to a young Chablis. The body and texture of this wine is derived from it's sur lies ageing and native yeast fermentation. This restless wine really sparks one's interest as it opens up and evolves in the glass. Playful and tropic ripeness defines this wines roots as Californian, its structure and refined power says Burgundian on the finish.

Only 375 cases of the Fantesca 2005 Chardonnay were produced with the intention of having a beautiful Burgundian-style Chardonnay to share with friends and family. The wine's natural acidity and minerality compliment the rich, ripe fruit flavors. A New Boutique Winery Discovery! Fantesca has been producing elegant wines at their Spring Mountain estate since the 2002 vintage, crafted by the well-known father and son winemaking team of Nils and Kirk Venge. The estate is rich with history, having originally been in the dowry of Caroline Bale when she married Charles Krug in 1860. Even then, the property was recognized as prime mountain vineyard land and the perfect place for a Spring Mountain winery, which today includes more than 10 acres of vineyards, a Tuscan estate, wine caves and custom crush facilities used by several Napa Valley boutique wine producers.
