Familia Cassone Malbec Obra Prima 2005

Member Review by amers3130:

This wine has the traditional dark purple color of a Malbec with a strong alcohol nose. Initially it has berry notes with mild tannins that leave a nice warmth in the back of the throat. We paired it with beets and chicken with a blueberry sauce and it brought out the warm berry flavors in the food. We love Malbecs and this is one of our favorites so far.

Familia Cassone is a tiny producer, and I was pleasantly suprised to find I could track down anything from them back here in the US. My wife and I tasted some of this before bottling when we were in Argentina, and it has improved notably. I'd be more inclined to rat this a 4.5 - it isn't quite the pinnacle of Malbec. But it is bold and unapologetic, for certain.
