Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Recommendation: Fall Creek Vineyards 2005 Sauvignon Blanc, Texas About Fall Creek Vineyards: Fall Creek Vineyards was established in 1975 by Texas businessman/rancher, Ed Auler and his wife, Susan. The vineyards are located eighty miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country where the sandy loam soil, warm days and cool breezes off Lake Buchanan provide an excellent microclimate for growing premium wine grapes. Winemaker Tasting Notes: The Sauvignon Blanc is a floral wine with citrus and melon flavors dominating with a touch of honeysuckle. This wine is immensely pleasing with a crispness on the finish that is extremely refreshing. Return to Fall Creek Vineyards Wine List

Located in the Texas Hill Country on the northwest shores of Lake Buchanan, Fall Creek Vineyards, once known only for French-American hybrid grape varieties, is now home to a wide range of vinifera varieties including Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Semillon, Johannisberg Riesling, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Viognier and Malbec. Breezes from the lake and sandy loam soil facilitate even ripening and flavor development in what otherwise might be considered unsuitable growing conditions. Owners Ed and Susan Auler have garnered much attention for the Texas wine industry, most notably for their highly acclaimed Bordeaux blend, or Meritage, Meritus . Their version of Bordeaux’s white counterpart, Sauvignon Blanc, is clear, bright yellow, and lightly viscous. It has lemon and floral aromas, and, on the palate, is very juicy and bold, with red delicious apple, Anjou pear, lemon, candied orange, and marzipan notes. Clean, round, and appealing, it is more like an Alsatian Pinot Blanc in style than a zesty Sauvignon Blanc. This lovely white wine would be just the ticket as a cooling aperitif at dusk on the veranda after a long day.
