The climatic and pedologic characteristics of this territory are similar. The hills stretching from Montefi ascone to Orvieto are partly volcanic partly sedimentary in origin and both kinds of soil are particularly suited to the growing of vines as witnessed by the century-old tradition of the zone. In his book The foreign varietals cultivated in Italy S. Mondini affirms that as early as the 19th century several foreign varietals were cultivated in Lazio, some in quite remarkable proportions and specialized in the vineyards... Cabernet, Carignane, Gamay, Grenache, Merlot, Malbeck, Pinot, Sauvignon, Syrah... Lazio generally proves to be an area where the advantages from the cultivation of the foreign varietals are remarkable, especially for what concerns the ones coming from France.. In the countryside surrounding Rome, Frosinone and Viterbo it’s widely held that they contribute to the improvement of the local wine production. Read less

Delicious! The Sangiovese seems to dominate this blend. It has well balanced acidity, with cherry and blackberry that start at the nose and are still graciously present at the finish. Near perfect oak and spice characteristics compliment the fruit and add to this wines complexity. The quality to price ratio can't be beat! 34% Sangiovese 33% Merlot 33% Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Description: A blend of equal parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sangiovese grapes grown in the region of Umbria, Vitiano Rosso is vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels for three months before being bottled. Made in a way that adheres to Riccardo Cotarella's philosophy of meticulous winemaking, the result is a delicious, youthful red at a terrific value. Tasting Notes: Deep ruby-red in color, aromas of plums and black fruits are complemented by undertones of black cherry jam, licorice, and tobacco leaves. On the palate, smooth tannins and ac idity balance this wine to make a food-friendly red wine. Food Pairing: Pair this wine with sopressata pizza, pomodoro sauces, or ratatouille. - Winery

You get a similar situation with the 2012 Vitiano Rosso, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This food-friendly red delivers vibrant berry tones and freshness over a medium frame. Again, the value is impressive. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2015.

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese are the varieties that give rise to this wine. A young red wine with an ample, rich aromatic fragrance. The wine is a lovely, deep and intense ruby red colour with an important, solid and substantial character but, above all, it brings out all the flavours of the food with which it is matched. It is very rich in polyphenols, which harmonize with its fresh and tonic acidity.

A solid country red that offers ample dark plum, cherry, spice and herbaceous underbrush notes. Drink now.

The 2011 Vitiano Rosso is surprisingly medium-bodied in this vintage, which causes the French oak to be a bit more noticeable than is typically the case. This tasty Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is a solid choice for drinking over the next year or two. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2014.

Though merlot accounts for a third of this wine, along with sangiovese and cabernet, it dominates the blend with bright, heady richness. With tarry tannin and burnt orange zest volatility, this is ready for a meaty ragù.
