Falesco Vitiano Rosso 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

With Vitiano we have tried to achieve a young red wine with explosive, luscious aromatic fragrance. This wine has a wonderful, deep, intense ruby red colour with important, solid, and wide organoleptic qualities, but above all it exalts the food it is combined with. It is very rich in polyphenols which harmonize with its fresh, tasty acidity. It is versatile red, quite innovative in style which can be appreciated immediately. It adapts easily to various dishes and can be drunk litghtheartedly drawing great pleasure from the sharp fragrance of its perfumes and its straightforward character. It should be drunk in wide crystal chalices where it can best develop its bouquet at a temperature of 18-19°C.

The climatic and pedologic characteristics of this territory are similar. The hills stretching from Montefi ascone to Orvieto are partly volcanic partly sedimentary in origin and both kinds of soil are particularly suited to the growing of vines as witnessed by the century-old tradition of the zone. In his book The foreign varietals cultivated in Italy S. Mondini affirms that as early as the 19th century several foreign varietals were cultivated in Lazio, some in quite remarkable proportions and specialized in the vineyards... Cabernet, Carignane, Gamay, Grenache, Merlot, Malbeck, Pinot, Sauvignon, Syrah... Lazio generally proves to be an area where the advantages from the cultivation of the foreign varietals are remarkable, especially for what concerns the ones coming from France.. In the countryside surrounding Rome, Frosinone and Viterbo it’s widely held that they contribute to the improvement of the local wine production. Read less

The 2009 Vitiano Rosso is a big, super-ripe wine bursting with red cherries, earthiness and spices. This is a truly beautiful Vitiano Rosso with tons of fruit and a racy, opulent personality. The full-throttle style verges on over ripeness and is on the edge of being over the top, but readers who enjoy this type of wine will find much to admire, especially for what remains an exceedingly modest price. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
