Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Riccardo Cotarella has experimented with many varietals, and found excellent results with Syrah in the clay and sedimentary soils of the Latina area. The south-eastern facing vineyards are located at 820 feet above sea level. Planting took place in 1995 at a density of 2,000 vines per acre. The first vintage was 2002, totalling 40,000 bottles. After twenty days of skin contact, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 7 months in Allier barriques, creating a rich, soft wine full of ripe fruit and licorice.
