Falesco Red Bordeaux Blend Umbria IGT Marciliano 2001

Member Review by jaye:

Impossible to score properly at this stage. Didn't love this the first evening. Aeration didn't help much. A little less harsh on day two. Day three the drink was much smoother, but less fruit on the nose. I finished the bottle on day four, but it had turned the corner. Each day bottle was ""Vacu-Vin"" closed and refridgerated, then allowed to come to room temp in the glass before drinking. For now will give an 87 because I feel there is potential -- but it isn't living up to the promise yet.

The hills stretching from Montefi ascone to Orvieto are partly volcanic partly sedimentary in origin and both kinds of soil are particularly suited to the growing of vines as witnessed by the century-old tradition of the zone. In his book The foreign varietals cultivated in Italy S. Mondini affirms that as early as the 19th century several foreign varietals were cultivated in Lazio, some in quite remarkable proportions and specialized in the vineyards... Cabernet, Carignane, Gamay, Grenache, Merlot, Malbeck, Pinot, Sauvignon, Syrah... Lazio generally proves to be an area where the advantages from the cultivation of the foreign varietals are remarkable, especially for what concerns the ones coming from France.. In the countryside surrounding Rome, Frosinone and Viterbo it’s widely held that they contribute to the improvement of the local wine production. Read less
