Falesco Marciliano Umbria IGT Italy 2007

Member Review by Antonio Chef Tony:

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, deep-purple with exuberant earthy and tobacco scents. Extraordinary taste, nose of blackberries, and very nice aroma. Equally impressive on the palate, this hearty Italian wine is very dry, smooth with velvety tannins. Complex, balanced, with beautiful fruit. It will keep for many years, an excellent Cabernet with 13.5% alcohol.

In his book The foreign varietals cultivated in Italy S. Mondini affirms that as early as the 19th century several foreign varietals were cultivated in Lazio, some in quite remarkable proportions and specialized in the vineyards... Cabernet, Carignane, Gamay, Grenache, Merlot, Malbeck, Pinot, Sauvignon, Syrah... Lazio generally proves to be an area where the advantages from the cultivation of the foreign varietals are remarkable, especially for what concerns the ones coming from France.. In the countryside surrounding Rome, Frosinone and Viterbo it’s widely held that they contribute to the improvement of the local wine production. Read less
