Eyrie Vineyards Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

All grapes for this wine came from our own vineyards in the Dundee Hills. Even though this is our young vine cuvee, the vines average 32 years. Eyrie's attentive vineyard practices focus on rigorous training of the vines and on picking at just the right time in order to capture optimal Pinot flavor.

Three years later, again in Paris, and the following year in Beaune, The Eyrie Vineyards 1975 Pinot noir brought international attention to Oregon, a wine region unfamiliar to almost anyone except a handful of hardy pioneers. With these two tastings, Oregon won its first recognition as the New World home for Pinot noir. Read less

Earthy, spicy and a little meaty on the nose with lots of beet root and old wood aromas. Rich and almost lush on entry with super acids perking up the midplate and supporting lovely wild raspberry and slightly red curranty fruit. The tannins are ever so edgy, adding some mouthgrab here. This is elegant and refined with a sneaky sweetness to the pure red berry fruit flavors framed with subtle savory notes earth and tea tones. It’s thoroughly engaging though it’s a touch simple and finishes a bit short with some dryness. Has a blend of lightness and palate stickiness that is hard to find. Could certainly improve, as it does over the course of an evening. 90pts

Opened bottle smelled like wet shoe, let sit overnight (corked) tried again today, after 30 mins no bad scent, a little sharp alcoholy, peppery and light.

there is considerable textural allure to ameliorate the wine's brash sense of acidity, and smoky, charred meat notes serve for depth and additional savor in this wine's long, sappily-intense finish. It ought to prove fascinating to follow for at least the next dozen years.
