Excelsior Shiraz 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Fruity on the nose with a spicy, fudgy character to the roasted plum fruit. A nice dose of oak seems to be playing in the background with vanilla and warm mulling spice tones. A bit lean with some nice mineral detail up front then turning a touch meaty on the mid-palate with a moderate amount of dark, plum and prune toned fruits, even dates. A rather dark wine with those notes carrying through on the finish. The acidity seems a bit unintegrated across the palate and on to the short finish. Screwcap 83pts

Raspberry, blueberry, and mango treats are dancing in this wine. A sweet celebration in your mouth. Some citric acid and underdeveloped tannins, and it seems to fade quickly.

Sugary sweet, hot nose. Flavors are tart, overextracted with overly jammy fruitiness.

Rich dark bloody nose. Full bodied dark fruits in the mouth with mild pepper and a gentile finish. A great wine for the price.

A juicy, tasty red from Robertson, South Africa. It shows loads of dark fruit on the palate with cassis and a touch of smoke on the finish. The tannins are eager to please - in fact, this wine just won't let you down in general. Friendly and approachable.

This ripe, jammy Shiraz is bursting with juicy flavors of blackberry, cherry, licorice, and plum, with hints of dark chocolate and Asian spice.
