Excelsior Chardonnay 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Low keyed on the nose with sweet bubblegum tones over a bed of lightly spicy pear fruit. This enters the mouth with a creamy edge then gains some nice tension on the mid-palate. It’s showing some nice wood spice tones but they float under the lightly creamy, orange and almost syrupy peach fruit of the mid-palate. The finish is light and reveals a bit more vanilla toned oak influence paired with nice, vibrant and refreshing green apple acids. 85pts

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

What an amazing bargain. Crisp clean with loads of flavor and mouth feel. At this price I would expect a very ordinary wine with bland flavor, but instead this wine delivers. Terribly underpriced. Should sell for $16-$20. Amazing. Unlike California over-oaked and buttery below the belt un-finessed powerhouses this Char is a subtle delight much more in the French style. Wonderful. Have with chicken, cheese, fish, or pork.

nice bright acidity. this can be paired with shrimp cocktail or just quaffed. it's got the zest that seems like sparkling but it ain't. killer. and at $8 it's a steal. definitely on the sweet side.

Dry buttery finish. Paired well with rosemary chicken.

Soft nuances of baby powder and orange blossom mix with the nectarine and barely ripe honeydew flavors. The palate is lively and brisk, and the vibrant acidity lends itself perfectly to the mouthwatering close. Drink now.

A medium-bodied Chardonnay with a pale golden color, fruity aromas, and floral honey notes to round out the apple and lemon-lime flavors. With its creamy texture, this would be spectacular with a dish like shrimp étouffée.

This lively Chardonnay starts with lemon, lime and pear on the nose, followed by a terrific combination of crisp citrus fruit and oaky, white fruit roundness. Elegant but fun, it's a perfect food wine. Think spicy ethnic cuisine, grilled seafood, salads. Imported by Cape Classics.

On the light side, with pear and flint notes, and a touch of lime on the crisp finish. Refreshing. Nice value.

Throughout this wine is an herbiness typical to South African wines. In this case, the herbal notes are offset by toast, cream, peach and lemon. This has very good body, finishing with intense fruit.

Pale yellow. Citrus peel on the nose. Sweet and juicy, with ripe acidity framing the citrus and nectarine flavors. Boasts good intensity and varietal character. Finishes with hints of pineapple and crystallized lemon peel.
