Black berries, leather and cigar box spice unfold on the nose, while flavors of lush black plum, cherry, prosciutto and mocha fill the creamy mouthfeel and lead through to the long finish. A terrific value Cab thatrsquo;s a great choice for company to pair with a roast or steaks.
This smooth, friendly Cab starts with aromas of lush blackberry and plum, leading into spicy, juicy flavors of black fruit and berries. Round, soft and food-friendly, itrsquo;s an elegant everyday sip for varied palates.
With their 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, the De Wet familyrsquo;s Excelsior estate has delivered an example of this beloved grape of exceptional value. Ripe black currant and elderberry promised on the nose are juicy yet not at all superficially sweet in their palate presence. Blond tobacco, hemp, moss, and toasted nuts add complexity to this polished, mouth-filling Cabernet, and unlike last yearrsquo;s rendition which evinced a hint of finishing heat, I could detect none (despite 14.5% alcohol) in the exuberantly, vividly fruity finish of this 2007. I would plan to enjoy it over the coming year.
A Cabernet from South Africa with great pedigree, Excelsior has consistently provided solid varietal wines with exceptional character. Full-bodied, with ripe blackberry and cassis flavors on a chewy, dense frame. Surprisingly complex, layered and delicious for an everyday favorite.
One might think by the name that this international-style Cabernet would come from New York State. But lo and behold, it hails from South Africa. Beginning on the nose, there is black currant present with a hint of thyme. The wine is fruit forward, plummy and possesses notes of black cherry; the fruit is carried by a fair amount of oak and sweet tannins. This is an unbelievable value and makes a great everyday wine; good enough for company.
Bright dark red. Currant, blackberry and licorice aromas show a candied quality and a touch of reduction. In a sweetish style, with good intensity and harmonious acidity to the dark berry flavors. Hints of menthol and mint on the slightly stunted finish. Will this reduced wine show more give with another 6 to 12 months in bottle?
Open-knit, with sweet grape, plum and toast flavors and a round, slightly jammy finish. Drink now.
