Nestled on a lower terrace of the Eola-Amity Hills’ eastern slope in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, our east facing 13 acre estate vineyard, Le Puits Sec, was planted in 1986. The soils are primarily basalt-derived volcanic and very well-drained, thus yielding pinot noir with great structure and at the same time aromatic and with finesse. As well, chardonnay and the Alsatian varieties thrive in this micro-climate, producing intensely varietal yet subtle wines. Evesham Wood obtained organic certification for both our estate vineyard and winery from Oregon Tilth in 2000. In addition, we are charter members of the Deep Roots Coalition, an advocacy group for wines produced exclusively from non-irrigated vines. Since 2005 Evesham Wood has been associated with the international organic/biodynamic organization, “Renaissance des Appellations”, whose members are required to adhere to rigid organic and quality standards. Oh my goodness, I am watching 'Julie and Julia' on Netflix right now, with this bottle that i just bought, and it is the best pairing : ) It is the lightest Pinot Noir I ever drank in my life. And to me, it's all about strawberries, almost strawberry flowers, i't so light, and i don't mean conventional strawberries, but european tiny small wild strawberries. If you make a pie with them, they become slightly bitter, and that is exactly what this wine tastes like to me. It's not red currant, i swear, maybe ripe white currant, and no cherries whatsoever, sorry, maybe a bit of a dry cherry pit. Seriously thinking about buying a case of it tomorrow. I gave it a 4 star rating only because it is not a traditional Pinot Noir, and some might be disappointed because of its rather mild sweetness. But a huge plus to me that they make it naturally, without 'nasties' , and I don't have a huge buzz going on, because it's made like it should be, honestly. You can feel it.
