Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Yet another brand/cuveacute;e from the great co-op of Esteacute;zargues, this is a cleverly named 100% Grenacha wine. Starts with bold spice and cherry aromas, then builds on the palate, offering fruit-forward flavors that finish minerally and crisp. Juicy and easy to drink.

The knock-out, 100% Grenache 2004 Cotes du Rhone-Villages La Granacha is made from 60ndash;80-year old vines cropped at 28ndash;30 hectoliters per hectare, and bottled with no filtration (as is its sibling), it is pure kirsch liqueur with loads of soul and personality. It comes across like a bargain-priced Chateauneuf du Pape. Spicy, with loads of sweet cherry and strawberry fruit, and enough acidity to provide definition, it can be enjoyed over the next 1ndash;2 years.

A reliable offering in many vintages, this cuveacute;e, selected by the American importer and bottled unfiltered, emerges from a well-run cooperative south of Avignon. The dense ruby/purple-colored 2000 offers a sweet perfume of jammy cassis and licorice. Supple, fleshy, full-bodied, and loaded with fat and fruit, it will drink well for 3ndash;4 years, although bottles of the 1995 in my cellar are holding up beautifully.

Textbook Rhocirc;ne with plenty of flashy fresh red fruit and ripe black fruit flavors. Light enough to suit poultry dishes, yet robust enough for red meats and pastas, this wine showcases the versatility of Rhocirc;ne reds.

Readers familiar with the sensational Cocirc;tes du Rhocirc;nes of the Domaine Gramenon will be pleased to know that importer Eric Solomon has found another estate making wines comparable to Gramenonrsquo;s. This producer formerly sold all of his Syrah cuvees to Marcel Guigal. One thousand four hundred cases were made of this knock-out, 100% Syrah cuveacute;e made from 60-year-old vines. It reveals a saturated ruby/purple color, a huge, peppery, cassis-scented nose. Rich and full-bodied, with a seductive, sweet, expansive mid-palate, voluptuous texture, and a pure personality, this knock-out wine is worth buying by the case. It should drink well for 4ndash;5 years.

A brilliant 100% Grenache cuveacute;e from old vines, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages La Granacha Signargues comes from an organically farmed parcel, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with no SO2 additions. Deep ruby to the rim, with beautiful aromas of kirsch liqueur, melted licorice, ground pepper, and garrigue, it is a superb, full-bodied effort with terrific precision, definition, and concentration. This beauty should drink well for 5ndash;6 years.

For some time now, Grenache has been my varietal of choice. This one in particular is very dense, with a nose of dark berry and spice followed by flavors of licorice, dark red cherry, bramble, blueberry and tar, enticing you to cherish each sip as each nuance slowly evolves into a long, velvety finish. Although this dry, full-bodied wine can develop for a few more years, I recommend a decanter, an easy chair and some time to contemplate every intricacy this wine offers.
