Estate Wine of Jersey Clos Vintage 2010

Member Review by duncan 906:

When I was recently on the island of Jersey I visited the La Mare Wine Estate [ www.lamarewineestate.com],did the tour, tasted some of their wines, and then decided to have this one with my lunch in their fine restaurant. After all,if it was good enough to be served to Her Majesty the Queen on her official visit to the island,it was certainly good enough for me Back in 1968 a Robert and Ann Blayney bought Elms Farm ,restored the eighteenth century farmhouse and in 1972 began the only commercial wine estate on the island. This white wine with the simple name of Clos is fermented under cool conditions in stainless steel vats and is a blend of three grape types,Reichsteiner,Orion and Seyal Blanc.Reichsteiner was bred in 1939 and Orion in 1984 in Germany for cool climates and disease resistance and are most often used in Germany and England.Seyal Blanc was developed for similar reasons in France in the 1920's,is used mainly in the UK and parts of Noth America and is noted for its citrus flavour.I enjoyed my bottle. It is an off-dry wine, which is not bitter or sour at all but with a tangy citrus aftertaste which would probably pair with a lot of foods
