Estate Wine of Jersey Bailiwick 2010

Member Review by duncan 906:

When I was recently on the island of Jersey I visited the La Mare wine estate [www.lamarewineestate.com],did the tour, tasted some of their wines and then bought a bottle of this one in their shop for eight pounds.Bailiwick is a medieval term sometimes used to describe the island of Jersey and was used by La Mare Wine Estate for their first red wine which was first produced in 2004 the eighthundreth anniversary of Jersey giving its loyalty to the English crown.Bailiwick is a blend of pinot noir, regent and rondo.Regent is a hybrid developed in Germany in 1968 for disease and fungal resistance and ripening early in a cool climate.Rondo is a hybrid developed in Czechoslovakia in 1964 for similar reasons.I drank my bottle last night and I have to say I was impressed. It is a little reminisccent of a Burgundy. It is fairly soft, mellow and subtle and there is a fruit taste which reminds me of blackcurrants ,cherries and raspberries.Overall I would say it is a lovely bottle of wine

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
