Estancia Winery Pinot Grigio 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This smells a bit overripe with peaches, pears, hints of dried figs and a little mango for good measure. A bit thin in the mouth, there is enough acid here but this feels quite rounded and loose in the mouth. The overripe fruit flavors lead to a dry, slightly astringent finish. Fairly innocuous but not what I want from Pinot Grigio. 75pts

Very nice pinot grigio. Light, lemony, with decent acidity. Good mid week quaff that pairs well with goat cheese, grilled seafood and other lighter fare. Very good QPR.

Nice light california pinot grigio. Not too complex with some oak, subtle lemon after taste and mid lenght finish. Not a bad mid week wine for the price.

This is a very nice, good quality pinot grigio. Nice fruit, green apples, some citrus and a decent finish. Good balance and nice acidity. Great value.

Citrus and mint on the nose. Light to medium bodied with a pleasant taste of citrus and tropical fruits and balanced acidity. No signs of oak or harsh tannins with a delightful, lingering finish. Recommended with sushi.

A night of home cooking and a glass or three of wine. I popped over to my local store and purused their little wine stock for something different, something that I had not tried before. I decided on an 2009 Estancia Pinot Grigio. Partly because of price and partly because it had a nice little rating from the store. I am still funny about the screw tops, which in England are almost par-for-the-course these days. While home in England recently, we purchased a few (or more) bottles of wine and I was always surprised when it ended up being a screw top. I honestly do not think we had one cork in two weeks! It’s really not the screw top that bothers me at all. I think it is the fact that I really like the process of opening a bottle with a cork and that wonderful “pop” sound it makes that makes you anticipate what you are about to taste even more. The Estancia Pinot Grigo, a fabulously inexpensive bottle of wine, is an exquisite straw color with a slight color of weak tea, almost like a Lipton’s Ice Tea. On the first nose it is full and bursting with fruits of pear and peach with a hint of citrus. The palate brings an intoxicating sweetness of lively sweet apple and honey… almost syrupy sweet like a dessert wine. Once it has opened up more there is a taste of spices, but still very full and heavy in taste. The wine remains incredibly fragrant and full bodied throughout the evening. The finish is long, sweet, luscious and a little sharp. I paired this wine with the Pesto Chicken with Roman Artichokes over Linguine and it was a wonderful choice for the pesto and indeed linguine. This wine is a good buy for an every day glass or two. A lovely choice for my evening in.

Offers fragrant lemongrass notes, with ripe, round peach and tangerine flavors that glide effortlessly along with a juicy, mouthwatering intensity. Drink now.

Extremely tart, almost bitter with citrusy acidity, and the flavors are of just slightly sweetened lemon juice. As dry and mouth puckering as it is, it's clean, and the sharpness will work well with shellfish.

Nice for an everyday sipper and especially for a cocktail style wine. Crisp acids undergird the structure, making the citrus, fig and vanilla bean flavors come alive.

If you are searching for a great restaurant wine to bring to your dinner table, Estancia Pinot Grigio is your gal! This beautifully crafted wine medium to full bodied wine is bursting with Anjou pear, green apple, lemon peel accompanied by a dash of spice, and minerality to bring up the rear. It has a vibrant fruit intensity you don't want to miss! It dazzles when paired with marinated chicken, fried fish or grilled crustaceans. Make your next dinner one you don't want to forget!

Slightly sweet in spearmint chewing gum flavors, this wine also has pleasing flavors of limes, Meyer lemons and vanilla, with a hint of pineapple crème brûlée. With no oak, it's a nice sipper for sushi.

Estancia produces solid, savory Pinot Grigios at a fair price, and they even dropped their price last year. This one's a little off-dry, with crisp acidity and pleasant citrus, peach and honeysuckle flavors.
