A soft, oaky nose. Good red fruits in the mouth - some tannins and a touch of alcohol heat. A tannic finish - young. Hot throughout, but not overbearing.
Color was bright ruby. The first night, this wine smelled of strawberries and creamsicles. The second night there were more florals, violets joining the strawberry, and the sweet/cream creamsicle scent was gone. The first night the palate was strawberry, wild cherry (have you ever had clear tiny wild cherries? cherry sour and wonderful), and sage. The second night it was far more complex, less strawberry, with wild cherries, plum skins, tobacco, leather, singed beef fat (think the crispy end of a prime rib) and sage. On night one the finish fell off almost instantly. But on night two, it lasted a lot longer, the tannins showing up and turning just a touch bitter at the end. This wine just might improve a lot with about three years in the cellar.
A little simple and dry. Maybe needs to breath?
