The 17-year-old vines, grafted to Clone 3 Merlot, are rooted in white volcanic soils. According to Winemaker Tom Peffer, the white soils on this part of the estate give this Merlot round, seamless tannins and outstanding density The vineyard lies at an elevation of 1,826 ft. on the Howell Mountain plateau, in Napa Valley’s eastern mountain range, giving it a climate distinctively different from the valley floor. Since the vineyard is above the night fog that frequently rolls into Napa Valley, nights are slightly warmer, while the altitude keeps daytime temperatures cooler. Harvest comes later, with long hang-times for the development of deep, complex flavors. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Very smooth and rich. Lots of berries, jammy, very intense. Well rounded, good long finish.

This had an extremely dark taste that I was not a big fan of. The aftertaste was not smooth.

Medium nose, lacking in earth tones or oak. Tart but nondescript fruit in the mouth; odd taste on the finish - almost soapy. Pass on this one.

Estancia planted nearly 700 acres along the Estrella River benchland in Paso Robles; nearly 400 acres of which is Cabernet Sauvignon. This emerging region is ideal for producing grapes that result in complex and delicious Cabernet Sauvignon displaying intense black currant and dark cherry fruit flavors followed by a long, rich finish. Growing conditions in Paso Robles are extreme temperature swings are greater here than in any other California appellation. The rugged landscape, unique microclimate and infertile soils at Keyes Canyon Vineyard produce red varietals with low yields, small clusters, tiny berries and high skin-to-juice ratios for concentrated wines with intense varietal character. These prime conditions are ideal for growing Estancia's Bordeaux-varietal wines. Appearance: Deep garnet with crimson hues Aroma: Ripe, dark black cherry, chocolate and currant complement the spicy, peppery notes and hints of toasted sweet oak Flavor: Jammy dark fruit accompanied by soft velvety tannins, followed with a long, rich finish
