Esprit du Sud Rouge Languedoc 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

GILLES LOUVET produces wines exclusively from organically grown grapes. His production methods are designed to respect the environment and natural habitats. In 1993, Gilles Louvet, grandson of a winegrower, became aware of the harmful effects of using chemical in the vineyards and switched to organic agriculture. Gilles Louvet chooses his grapes with care from vines nestled in the foothills of the “Montagne Noire”, a location which allows them to reach the peak of ripeness. His expertise in maturing and blending completes the process, to bring you this Syrah, Grenache and Carignan blending which is expressive, complex and packed with flavours that evoke the subtle charms of the Languedoc.

“Leading the way in French organic wines” Located in the Languedoc region in the south of France, Gilles Louvet is dedicated to creating environmentally friendly wines that are both rich in quality and healthy in their production. All wines are certified AB (Agriculture Biologique) in France. Since its creation in 1993, Gilles Louvet Vineyards has become a prominent force in the organic wine world: it is the #1 supplier of certified AB wines in France, and #2 supplier of certified AB wines in Europe. Gilles Louvet himself, founder and owner of the vineyards, has had a passion for organic farming since he observed his grandfather’s practice at a young age. This passion, stemming from a family business grew into am individual lifestyle: he now dedicates all aspects of his life to a natural, untainted way of living. Altogether, Gilles Louvet Vineyards works with 300 winegrowers, getting steady supply from 50 producers and 10 cooperatives wineries, as well as from his newly acquired 170 acre property (Domaine St Felix des Toureilles and Domaine des Iris). The dry and warm Mediterranean climate lends itself perfectly to growing organic grapes and allows Gilles Louvet to rediscover wine as it was made in the past. Using the unique quality of this climate combined with the richness of the soil and the natural resources of biodiversity. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This wine has a nice deep ruby colour. On the nose you get some ripe red fruits and caramelised dark fruit. The attack is supple and fruity then a good complexity on the mid palate with some darker red fruits and spiciness, the finish is long and silky. Serving suggestions: at 59-62°F, an ideal accompaniment for grilled meats, stew, or with soft cheeses

What does the spirit of the south of France taste like? It's a medium-bodied red wine, dense with dark fruits - but it also has an aspect of muskiness that will complement an array of grilled, meaty foods.
