Intense fudge, cocoa and mineral notes greet the nose followed by concentrated black fruits, smoke, plum, sage and white pepper aromas. Almost light on entry, this builds some inky depth on the palate in a tight, linear style. In need of further aging or time in a decanter, this is a bit nervous and taut in the mouth, slowly revealing blueberry, wild plum and blackberry flavors dotted with slightly peppery oak over black earth and dried herb flavors. The finish shows a hint of tomato fruit and good length with violet-tinged inner mouth perfumes. Really quite long even if a little tight, it’s a wine which shows finesse. 92pts

Just a stunning effort. Chocolate dipped oily blackberries. Very long smooth finish. Great pairing for steak. This should give caymus or silver oak a run for their money at a nice discount. Drink now or cellar for another 5 years.

Stunningly bold and vibrant. Loud flavours but do not overpower, smooth tasting with dark fruit and a slight herbal quality but its the relative ease it is to drink I admire most. Easily finished the bottle without batting an eyelid.

A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up a brooding bouquet of sandalwood, exotic spices, dried herbs, lavender, blueberry, and black currant. Voluptuous on the palate with layers of spicy black fruits, nicely concealed ripe tannins.

Lush in texture, with velvety tannins carrying the dark plum, fig and black currant notes. Yet thereandrsquo;s plenty of drive, thanks to dark coffee, chestnut and tobacco notes that fill in around the fruit and push through on the muscular, iron- and loam-filled, but polished finish. Impressive. Equal parts Carmenandegrave;re and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2014.

The purple-colored 2005 Espiritu de Apalta is composed of 50% Carmenere and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon bottled without filtration. It offers a spicy, toasty perfume with blue fruit and black cherry. Smooth-textured and plush on the palate, this savory, well-balanced wine has enough structure to evolve for 2andndash;3 years. The finish is long and pure.

Neyen means "spirit" in the native Mapudungun language. The Neyen vineyard was the first in Apalta (Colchagua valley); these Carmenère and Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted in 1890. This red wine is a full-bodied and full of spiced cassis and blackberry fruit.

Vivid ruby. Alluring perfume of black raspberry, boysenberry, incense and roasted coffee, with a bright floral overtone. Deep, sweet dark berry flavors are framed by supple tannins and gain a sexy floral pastille quality with air. Offers an impressive marriage of richness and vivacity, with excellent finishing clarity and persistent sweetness. This is very attractive right now but Iandrsquo;d hold onto it for at least another five or six years.
