Esk Valley Gimblett Gravels Hawkes Bay 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

90+ points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate): Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Winemakers Reserve Gimblett Gravels Merlot Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon has an expressive nose of crushed blackberries and cassis with touches of pencil shavings, bay leaf and cloves. Medium to full-bodied with mouth-filling blackberry and dried herb flavor layers, it has a good frame of medium to firm, grainy tannins, balanced acidity and a finish with very good length. Drink it now to 2019+. (Oct 2013)

The old concrete vats, the layout of the buildings, and the absence of modern technology mean the people at Esk Valley have had to make wine in a simple, honest, hands-on way. The people at Esk Valley are as important to the wine-making process as the vines and the high quality grapes they produce.
