Cab is usually a chewy and tough wine in its youth, whilst this was much more fuit-driven and approachable with ripe blackcurrant, some spice and pepperiness and a long finish, but rather less complex and sophisticated for it. The extra couple of degrees of alcohol result in a wine that is riper, juicier and more approachable, but less complex and with less aging potential as a result - which is apparently what most wine-buyers look for these days.

The Errazuriz Estate was founded in 1870 when Don Maximiano Errazuriz planted his first vineyards at Panquehue in the Aconcagua Valley - 100km North of the capital. Recognising that this valley, with its cool, rainy winters, hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world class vineyard.Today, the tradition of quality lives on with Don Maximiano's descendant Eduardo Chadwick. Eduardo is the fifth generation of his family to be involved in the wine business. Our 2006 Max Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from our Max Vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley, a region with a Mediterranean climate that features moderately warm summer days and cooling afternoon breezes. The vines are planted on a 5° slope on well-drained gravel-sandy-clay soils. The grapes were hand-picked in late April, carefully hand-sorted, and gently crushed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. All lots were aged for 12 months in 52% new French and American oak barrels. Ruby-red with violet highlights, this wine has a rich nose with intense aromas of red and black fruits such as cherries, strawberries, and plums that meld with notes of spice, such as cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla that add a sense of sweetness and elegance. The palate opens with a pleasing sweet sensation and soft tannins that result in a lush palate with firm structure. The medium-to-long finish is complemented by flavours of toffee, caramel, and chocolate, ending with a lovely freshness.
