Errazuriz Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2013 Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve, sourced from a cool vintage, is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 6% Carménère and 5% Petit Verdot; it fermented in small stainless steel vats and matured in French oak barrels (65% new) for 22 moths. It has a very classical nose, a Bordeaux blend with aromas of blackberries, faint balsamic notes, cedar wood, graphite, cigar box, cracked peppercorns and tobacco leaves. It has a lot less new oak than the vintages of yesteryear. The palate is medium to full-bodied with the telltale Cabernet tannins, juicy fruit, and tension keeping the freshness balancing the sweet fruit. One of the finest versions of Don Maximiano. 73,800 bottled in March 2015." --The Wine AdvocateTasting the Errázuriz line up is always exciting ,as they are exploring the coastal, fresher parts of their vineyards, separating plots and vinifying them separately. Part of this search resulted in the creation of two groundbreaking wines from slate soils, a terroir still to be explored and exploited in Chile. The slate (or schist) wines show subdued minerality and a different character, and while the Pinot Noir is very good, the Chardonnay really excels. The team of Eduardo Chadwick and Francisco Baetting are showing clockwork precision with better wines each vintage. They are all highly recommended.

Errazuriz was founded in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, 65 miles north of the capital, Santiago, and at the foot of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the seven summits of the world. Recognizing that this valley was ideal for growing grapes, with its hot, dry summers and cool Pacific Ocean breezes, Don Maximiano Errazuriz sent for the finest clones from France, and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, the tradition lives on with Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation of his family to lead this exceptional estate. Eduardo’s work has been colossal, bringing Errazuriz into a new era where it is acknowledged as a producer of world-class wines, and opened eyes around the globe as to Chile’s incredible and diverse sites. As an estate winery, Errazuriz strives to produce the finest wines through meticulous attention to every stage of viticulture and vinification, from grape growing in the Aconcagua, Casablanca and Curico valleys, to winemaking with the most natural techniques. An emphasis is placed on the delicate handling of the wines, with the aim of producing wines with elegance and complexity. It is this dynamism and passion for wine that has made Errazuriz such an internationally respected producer of quality wines. Check us out at www.errazuriz.com Read less

Dichtes Purpur.

Sehr intensives Rubinrot, fast purpurn.

Rich and ripe, with nicely polished focus to the mocha, tobacco, mulled currant and fig notes, all backed by coffee and dark licorice notes on the lengthy finish. There's nice underlying grip. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot.
