Errazuriz Chardonnay Max Reserva 2016

External Review:

The wine is a golden-yellow color, and the nose presents fresh fruit, floral, and citrus aromas that recall grapefruit and mandarin orange flowers and lend complexity to the wine. The fruity notes intensify on the palate with vibrant acidity that balances perfectly with creaminess, good structure, and the lush mouthful that resulted from the malolactic fermentation, leading to a long and pleasing finish.

Errazuriz was founded in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, 65 miles north of the capital, Santiago, and at the foot of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the seven summits of the world. Recognizing that this valley was ideal for growing grapes, with its hot, dry summers and cool Pacific Ocean breezes, Don Maximiano Errazuriz sent for the finest clones from France, and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, the tradition lives on with Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation of his family to lead this exceptional estate. Eduardo’s work has been colossal, bringing Errazuriz into a new era where it is acknowledged as a producer of world-class wines, and opened eyes around the globe as to Chile’s incredible and diverse sites. As an estate winery, Errazuriz strives to produce the finest wines through meticulous attention to every stage of viticulture and vinification, from grape growing in the Aconcagua, Casablanca and Curico valleys, to winemaking with the most natural techniques. An emphasis is placed on the delicate handling of the wines, with the aim of producing wines with elegance and complexity. It is this dynamism and passion for wine that has made Errazuriz such an internationally respected producer of quality wines. Check us out at www.errazuriz.com Read less

Hay, straw, match stick and minerally aromas outweigh this wine’s fruit scents by a measurable margin. This is chunky and a bit soft in the mouth, a reflection of 2012’s heat. And while it’s round as a ball, it’s slightly vegetal and bitter tasting on the palate, with grapefruit and bell pepper flavors.

From a recently planted vineyard in Aconcagua, about eight miles from the sea, this is a cool sauvignon, electric with scents of citrus and herbs. The wine is rich with alcohol, held in check by a firm edge of acidity. A classic coastal Chilean white for oysters.

A pale yellow colour with soft golden tones, on the nose our Max Reserva Chardonnay 2011 displays lively, intense aromas that fuse fruit such as cherimoya, stone fruit, and grapefruit with subtle spiced notes. Creamy with good volume on the palate, with a lively acidity that adds crispness. A wonderfully balanced wine that delivers a prolonged, elegant finish. - Winery

This is a solid version displaying herbaceous undertones to the ripe plum fruit which carries hints of olive paste and iron on the savory finish. Drink now. NW Wine Spectator.

Carmenere is becoming Chile’s signature grape — like Malbec is in Argentina, in that it seems every winery is making one. This one has the sweet aroma of chocolate, and the tannins are soft and mellow. There is a kick of white pepper in the finish rounding out the wine.

The 2010 Max Reserva Carmenere was aged in 80% French and 20% American oak (20% new.) It offers dusty mocha-tinged fruit on the nose. The palate is soft in the mouth with less of the mocha element usually imparted by the variety, although it lacks a little backbone towards the finish. Drink now–2015.
