Erasmo Cabernet-Merlot Viña la Reserva de Caliboro 2006
Before they run out/ Cata & Vino is the best wine fair in Chile, by far...As for red wines, I have a small surprise for you. It comes from Maule and it is the last harvest of Francesco Marone Cinzano, the aristocrat from Tuscany that produces wine in the VII region in his cellar of Rserva de Caliboro. Erasmo, a red blend, reaches in 2004 a quality and refinement rarely found on this side of the world. Buy it and enjoy it because it is a sofisticated and classy delicacy with italian design. The best wine in the fair.Add winemaker's notes

/ From a rainy year in Maule, Erasmo makes a fresh impression with herbal and green spice flavors and a core of firm, elegant tannins. With some air, chocolate and red cherry notes emerge, but the texture remains fine and austere. Reserva de Caliboro is own by Count Marone Cinzano, proprietor of Col d'Orcia in Montalcino.
Wine Guide 2006/ From a new winery comes a Bordeaux-style blend that beautifully balances ripe red berry flavors with high acidity. Drink now to 8 years.
/ The commmunity of excellent vineyards in the Maule Valley continues to grow and the reds, especially the Merlots (yes the Merlots) and the Cabernet Sauvignon are to be taken seriously. Without having to go too far, a mixture of Cabernet and Merlot, such as Erasmo 2004, the elegance of Reserva de Caliboro, which comes from the Perqulauquen Rio, is one of the best reds from all of Chile.
La Reserva de Caliboro (Erasmo 2001)/ Caliboro is just what Maule needs: a small-scale, foreign-owned wine producer dedicated to terroir-driven wine and prepared to champion the region as a result. The first release was a single wine, the 2001 Erasmo, a blend of sixty per cent Cabernet-Sauvignon, thirty per cent Merlot, and ten per cent Cabernet Franc. For a debut vintage, it shows astounding class, depth, and intensity, with a ripe, steeped fruit and roasted herb character matched by a tight-knit, stylish palate. It somehow manages to reflect the warmth and rusticity of the Maule terroir while retaining a structure and style more readily associated with Europe.
Chile/ Made by Count Francesco Marone Cinzano, owner of Col d'Orcia in Montalcino, this Maule blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc stands out for its sophisticated mix of red fruit, spice and mineral acidity. Built on firm, elegant tannins, its cool flavors offer a refreshing, almost electric tension.
/ Ambitious but exciting debut vintage; a bordeaux blend made by an Italian
