It comes from Maule and it is the last harvest of Francesco Marone Cinzano, the aristocrat from Tuscany that produces wine in the VII region in his cellar of Rserva de Caliboro. Erasmo, a red blend, reaches in 2004 a quality and refinement rarely found on this side of the world. Buy it and enjoy it because it is a sofisticated and classy delicacy with italian design. The best wine in the fair.
/ From a rainy year in Maule, Erasmo makes a fresh impression with herbal and green spice flavors and a core of firm, elegant tannins. With some air, chocolate and red cherry notes emerge, but the texture remains fine and austere. Reserva de Caliboro is own by Count Marone Cinzano, proprietor of Col d'Orcia in Montalcino.
La Reserva de Caliboro (Erasmo 2001)/ Caliboro is just what Maule needs: a small-scale, foreign-owned wine producer dedicated to terroir-driven wine and prepared to champion the region as a result. The first release was a single wine, the 2001 Erasmo, a blend of sixty per cent Cabernet-Sauvignon, thirty per cent Merlot, and ten per cent Cabernet Franc. For a debut vintage, it shows astounding class, depth, and intensity, with a ripe, steeped fruit and roasted herb character matched by a tight-knit, stylish palate. It somehow manages to reflect the warmth and rusticity of the Maule terroir while retaining a structure and style more readily associated with Europe.
/ Deep and intense, with focused blackberry and plum fruit laced with cigar box, spices and toasty oak. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
/ Was dry farmed and bottled unfiltered. It has a very ripe bouquet of current, blackberry, cherry, cocoa, and vanilla. The same repeat on the palate where the fruit is bright and there is a nice sweetness but still there is good acidity and fine, firm tannin. The finish is long and medium-broad. Well balanced, structured, and integrated. It will be popular. Good.
