This offers up some quick oaken notes which are joined in the glass by a fairly meaty, lightly spicy and earthy core ofspicy black fruits, boysenberry and candied black plum. There's light top note that hints at herb but settles more into a chocolate licorice vein. Big in the mouth but also velvety smooth. this is dense but bright and packed with rich fresh fruit. there's some wood tannin on the backend that breaks up the fine texture a bit but it really only becomes noticeable on the finish where it adds a drying component to a spicy, slightly hot finish with cinnamon framed black fruit. The wood really cuts things a bit short and throttles back the big fruit leaving a lightly bitter toasty, vanillin scented finish. Gotta love the wood if you're gonna enjoy this. Needs 2 years or so to better integrate. 91pts

I enjoyed the structure of this wine although the finish was not what I expected. The dry oak finish left me wanting for more. While the fruit is evident, spice is what dominates this tasting experience throughout the palette.

OAK. OAK.... Still oak... oak. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I just came away from this feeling like I sucked on a tree for an hour. And if I'm doing that I prefer maple. Don't get me wrong, not a bad wine, I see the spiciness and dark fruits others mentioned, but they were drowning in wood. Also, acid was a little flabby for my liking.

Wine Tasting NotesComprised of 60% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 5% Petite Sirah, the 2004 offering is dense, dark purple in color and shows exotic aromas of black cherry, plum, smoke and pepper. The palate is full-bodied with jammy blackberry liqueur flavors accented by enticing spice box, leather, vanilla and peppery notes. It is balanced, long on the finish and thoroughly rewarding.

Bankrolling a purchase of 714 acres in Santa Barbara’s primeSanta Ynez Valley with proceeds from his Hollywood career - he charmed the masses as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone - Fess Parker changed the landscape of that region long before the Rocky Horror Picture Show-like Sideways cultists swarmed the place. Along with daughter Ashley and son Eli, he became the first major player in the area’s early wine industry, leading the way not only in bringing an international spotlight to the potential of the area’s wines but also in setting the standards for winery hospitality. The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard now farms over 700 acres on four vineyards throughout the county, and produces Frontier Red, Parker Station, Fortress Vineyards, and this Epiphany Cellars label. This Rhone blend (primarily Grenache and Syrah) is bright opaque ruby with slow-moving colored legs. On the nose it has notes of cranberry, mineral, mocha, and dark chocolate, not unlike the French Vin Doux Naturel, Banyuls, or Port. On the palate it is viscous and chewy with dark berry, dark chocolate, mocha, hazelnut, peanut, and toasted cashew notes.
