Epicuro Nero d'Avola Sicilia IGT 2008

Member Review by sommeliersuzanne:

This is one of the best deals going on red wine. Seriously, put this wine in your "Tuesday Night" wine rotation. You won't be sorry. It is consistently priced at $4.99 at Trader Joe's. I think this expression of the Nero d'Avola grape from Sicily is quite like a Petite Sirah. Firm structure (which for me is a "Eureka!" moment in a $5 wine), but still fairly silky mouth feel. Medium bodied, but packs quite a punch in the fruit department: I get pomegranate, cassis, cherry, & blackberry. Sufficient acid makes it food friendly (which is welcome and a little surprising in wine from such a warm climate as Sicily). Had this with a hamburger with grilled portobello mushrooms and the combination soared. This wine is a screaming value for how tasty and food friendly it is.

About 5 bucks at Trader Joes. Cheap glue to hold labels. The taste...bitter dry on first taste but disapears after that. Not sweet. Packs a good punch...1 glass put me to sleep after a long day at work. Warm to your stomach. I will probably buy this again.
