Envoy Riesling 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Envoy is a range of wines with old world values delivering the message of land and time. Selected micro sites from within Johnson Estate which consistently produce the best fruit are chosen to represent site and variety. Selection is the vineyard site, not cherry picking of finished wines. Winemaking is deliberately low tech and low intervention allowing winemaking interpretation to guide the process. The top terrace site known as 'D Block' is superbly suited to the Germanic clones of Riesling GM110 and GM239 which best express this site and climate. The topsoil clay content combined with the free draining substrate reduces vine vigour and allows small berries on balanced vines to develop fully over the entire season. The nose is a tightly wound composition of mineral, earth and toast. The palate is full bodied yet still reasonably austere. The textural phenolic/acid profile suggests longevity.
