What to Expect

Argentina, and in particular the region around Mendoza, is making a name for itself as the source of some of the finest expressions of Malbec ever made. In this warm, yet dry climate the Malbec achieves near perfect ripeness endowing the wines with a velvety texture and intense flavors of blackberry, peppery spice, and balsamic herbs. The cooler, well-drained slopes of the hillsides of the region have proven to be ideally suited for Malbec, allowing for the wines to achieve a level of complexity and harmony that rivals those of Napa or Bordeaux.

Winemakers Notes

Tasting Notes: Our showcase Malbec. Highly selected grapes from our old vines with restricted production not exceeding 1kg per vine. Following a rigorous selection, the grapes were crushed, then fermented for 8 days in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Finally, this wine was aged in our underground cellars for 15 months in new French oak barrels, and 12 months in the bottle. Notes: Deep ruby with violet reflections, intense cherry, blackberry, and spice aroma, well-balanced, full bodied, soft elegant tannins, long-lasting finish. Extremely vegetal in the nose with some ripe fruit (class plum). Medium body/tannin - very smooth and silky finish. Some spicy, earthy. High alcohol was somewhat offset by fruit, but could have used more fruit. Point rating would be 92.

Although relatively light in color, the potent bouquet and dense palate are as powerful as they come. Elegant yet overflowing with licorice, candied plum, maple syrup, and earth, the sweetness of new oak perfectly complements the heavy fruit character.
