Enate Gewürztraminer 2015

Member Review by Fenderbaum:

I'm a Gewürztraminer newbie so I'm not on a very sure footing with this review. I was taken aback by the general stinkiness of the nose, though in a positive way. A very light limey fruitiness on the palate but very little on the back and the followthrough seemed weak. Refreshing but not earth shattering.

Very clear gold color. Huge nose of Roses erupt out of the glass to the point that I looked about myself for a older lady doused with perfume. None to be seen, back to the glass I pick up a slight lychee note though nothing can get by the floral nose that easily. Very dry in the mouth with a slight oiliness mingled with a creamy quality. Palate of pure flowers though now I'm tasting a wider range of flowers. The lychee nut becomes slightly more pronounced with a delicate hazelnut or cashew quality jumping in. Awesome example of the grape and fun to see Spain pulling off something so different. To this point I have tasted a lot of Gewurz that hasn't come close to being varietally correct. alt-4 c5a12t16o7=90 [90]

Somontano has been at the cutting edge of the Spanish wine industry for the past 10 years and is recognised as where new world wine advances have combined with Spain's traditional values. The company at the forefront of this vitality is Enate. Since its formation in 1991 it now commands 27% of the region's export sales and is respected for its premium quality in 30 countries. The investment has been colossal. The company has 600 hectares of vineyards in production. The futuristic beautifully designed cellars and winemaking complex has the capacity to store 4.1 million litres in stainless steel, has 5,000 French oak barrels and space to mature over 4 million bottles. Winemaking is highly automated, with a computer that can communicate in 12 languages; but the human touch is under the careful control of talented international star Jésus Artajona. Success is obvious with every market under a strict stock allocation. Grapes: 100% Gewurztraminer Vinification: The grapes are hand harvested, destalked and crushed softly then left on their skins for 5 hours. The wine is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at 16°C Taste: Complex and exuberant bouquet, full tones of honey and roses. On the palate it is dry and spicy with a delicate floral and lychees character. Serve: Serve at between 8-10 c as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to strong cheeses and froie gras.
