Emilio Lustau Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Dry Amontillado V.o.s NV
A perfect sherry for puddings such as fruit salad and fruit cake; marmalade and
orange peel notes to the fore and a seductive freshness that belies the
fortification, the 195 grams of sugar and the weight in the mouth. Dried figs
and molasses provide the lower notes, but it is the refreshing character which
is the most memorable and pleasurable feature of the wine."
(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)
Light colored with a nose that is not so surprisingly better than the last bottle we had which was oxidized. The bouquet was so layered that I had a difficult time distinguishing between aromas of sea salt, melon, lime popsicles, green apple and almond. The mouthfeel felt a little like poprocks spring to life in my mouth slowly settling to a buttery mouthfeel. I tasted lots of lemon-vanilla ice cream on the palate followed by cashews, butterscotch, white/yellow flowers and salt. Really a fun wine that made me realize I am turning to the dark side and becoming a young sherry wine lover!
Yeasty and briny, baking spices, nutty, much richer than what I normally think of as typical amontillado. Maybe this is Lustau's house style, to tend toward richness. Very very good stuff though, great concentration and really impressed some friends of mine who weren't familiar with good sherry.
Four and a half glasses

Thick and sweet yet shows some verve and finishes clean. Raisin caramel and fig are the flavor highlights. A touch hot on the finish. Drink now. -BS Wine Spectator.
