Fresh with clear bright violet, bitter almond and earthy plum aromas that gain dark cherry fruit, and a little charry earthy smoky top note with some air. Opening with bright acids, this is fruity and fresh in the mouth with plum skin and black cherry skin flavors that are rather edgy and very freshly fruity. Bracing and mouth cleansing, this is raw and round and seamless in a fairly medium light to light bodied wine. Lovely grape skin tannins and fine acids slice through the palate like a knife through butter. Can’t wait to try this with grilled tuna and grilled pork. The all-purpose Dolcetto. 91pts

Our History The Elvio Cogno winery sits on the top of Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe area of Piedmont, one of the eleven communes in which Barolo is produced. The cellar is housed in an 18th-century manor farm surrounded by 11 hectares of land, all occupied by vineyards. After a long and fruitful partnership with Marcarini at La Morra, in 1990 Cogno bought a splendid historical farm in the family village and restored it to its former glory. Today the winery nestles in a breathtaking landscape between the hills and the sky. At sunset on clear days, a wonderful turquoise horizon frames the farm like a painting. Hence the name of this exceptional wine land: ‘Petorchino’, or blue feet. The Cogno family has been making wine in the Langhe area for four generations: the values of history and tradition handed down by father Elvio are enhanced by the freshness and innovation introduced by his daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore. Very pretty nose is a little inky, but packed with flowers, and spicy earthy and mineral aromas.This has a nice lighter bodied feel but with a touch of body and a nice soft tannin structure lending it just a bit of power in a fresh style. The super clean finish shows aromas of violets and has a certain delicacy to it. This really has pretty inner mouth perfumes and juicy little skin tannins driving the palate. Prototypical modern style quality Dolcetto. 88pts

Inky purple, this is a concentrated, tannic red that displays juicy black cherry and cherry flavors. Just a bit pinched on the finish now, but should open nicely. Drink now through 2016. 200 cases imported. -BS (done entirely in stainless steel): Good bright red-ruby. Slightly metallic aromas of cherry and licorice, with a green, herbal side. Juicy and bright but dry and a bit pinched, with a medicinal black cherry flavor dominating. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry. Could use a bit more flesh and personality. Color: Deep ruby red with deep purple hueBouquet: Dry and full-bodied, elegant and round, with notes of fruit and a wonderfully almondy finishFlavor: It is dry, full, elegant and round in the mouth, with hints of fruit and a pleasantly intense almond finish - WineryPairings: Serve it with hors d'oeuvre, cream soups, cured meats and fresh cheesesVarietal: 100% DolcettoAlcohol Content: 13%
