Elvio Cogno Barolo 2004

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sour on the nose with a touch of a yogurt edge, a touch of VA, leathery notes of dried beef, sweet tea and dried fruits with a top note of espresso foam and seaweed. This is quite resolved and lean in the mouth yet retains good balance with light rose petal, rosehip and wild cherry flavors that are supported by the bright acidity, and open with a burst before fading on the seaweed and licorice toned finish. This bottle is past peak and fading 87pts

Some truly wonderful twists and turns on the finish. Deceiving on the color with some lighter shades but some real heft and ballsy mouth feel. Made the meal at Convivio (NYC) that much sweeter.

Delightful medium bodied wine with a silky, refined feel about it.

A wine with a rich and decadent fruit structure and a spice, meat and cedar undertone. Full-bodied, velvety and long. It goes on and on.
