Elk Cove Vineyards Windham Pinot Noir 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Critical Acclaim:Wine Enthusiast, April 2007 90 "Good winemaking is evident here. This is clean and fresh, with light, appealing flavors of berry, cola and chocolate-covered espresso bean. The wine has a smooth, silky texture, and feels substantial without being fat or hot. It is certainly ageworthy and it wouldn't surprise me if it lasted a decade or more. But tough to keep your hands off it right now." - P.G. Northwest Palate, March/April 2007 Two Clusters "Gentle yet persistent scents of graham-spiced red fruits are layered with rose and cola accents. Juicy on the tongue, with hearty cherry and berry flavors backed by mouthwatering acidity, this lively wine offers plenty of punch.." Hilton Head Food & Wine Festival, February 2007 Gold Medal

Elk Cove Vineyards is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected wine producers. Founded in 1974, by Pat and Joe Campbell, our focus has always been to produce hand crafted, Estate grown wines that can rival the best in the world. Estate Vineyards Estate vineyards now cover over 180 acres on four separate sites in the Northern Willamette Valley. Steep south facing slopes, of Willakenzie and Laurelwood soil types with excellent drainage, provide the perfect environment to grow the world class wine grapes that are the basis for creating Elk Cove wines. Proper site selection and meticulous vine management along with harvesting at very low yields creates the concentration and depth of flavor that are hallmarks of Elk Cove wines. Family Owned and Operated Elk Cove Vineyards proudly remains a family owned and operated winery. Winemaker Adam Godlee Campbell joined forces with his parents in 1995 to produce outstanding Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Growing up among the vines on the Elk Cove Estate has instilled a tremendous respect for the soil in which the grapes were grown, therefore his role as winemaker is one of stewardship over intervention. In the winery Adam employs gravity flow and gentle handling to protect the inherent qualities of the Estate grown fruit. We at Elk Cove hope you enjoy these wines as much as we all enjoyed the creative process in making them. Read less

Deep fruit, dark cherry with mint, dark herb, green spice and tea notes. Has a little Burgundian funkiness going on with a nice note of peppercorns and grilled, rare beef. Very clean, precise with modest but lovely crisp tannins, solid acidity is refreshing, red cherry fruit is fresh and crisp with a touch of that green spice up front then tea and earth on the midpalate. Medium bodied but very fine and layered with an absolutely refreshing feel, lovely focus and a moderately long finish that ends with a flourish of fine spice tones. Elegant and complex. 91pts

Off balance. For Wilamette valley, this was an incredible disappointment. Leave it on the shelf.

It was very smooth but I felt it was a little dull.
