Elk Cove Vineyards Estate Riesling Willamette Valley 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Positively jumps out of the glass with bursts of honeysuckle, honey and eucalyptus. A woodsy tone of cherry blossoms in springtime tempers the sweetness. Very rich and concentrated on the palate with bright, bright fruit accents of plum, fresh green apple and caramelized orange peel. Continues to be lively on the long, citrusy finish.

Elk Cove Vineyards is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected wine producers. Founded in 1974, by Pat and Joe Campbell, our focus has always been to produce hand crafted, Estate grown wines that can rival the best in the world. Estate Vineyards Estate vineyards now cover over 180 acres on four separate sites in the Northern Willamette Valley. Steep south facing slopes, of Willakenzie and Laurelwood soil types with excellent drainage, provide the perfect environment to grow the world class wine grapes that are the basis for creating Elk Cove wines. Proper site selection and meticulous vine management along with harvesting at very low yields creates the concentration and depth of flavor that are hallmarks of Elk Cove wines. Family Owned and Operated Elk Cove Vineyards proudly remains a family owned and operated winery. Winemaker Adam Godlee Campbell joined forces with his parents in 1995 to produce outstanding Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Growing up among the vines on the Elk Cove Estate has instilled a tremendous respect for the soil in which the grapes were grown, therefore his role as winemaker is one of stewardship over intervention. In the winery Adam employs gravity flow and gentle handling to protect the inherent qualities of the Estate grown fruit. We at Elk Cove hope you enjoy these wines as much as we all enjoyed the creative process in making them. Read less

Lemon and petrol on the nose with soft wildflower notes and some tangerine. More citrus and petrol notes on the palate, good acidity, some sweet spice and ripe melon notes towards the finish, and a creamy texture throughout.

Very Riesling on the nose with very white floral tones and lacy soil tones over cool, crisp citrus fruits. Lacks a bit of integration on the green apple, lime and peach. On the finish this really shows excellent depth of fruit with intense acid driven peach flavors. This needs some time to better knit together but has all the components to be exceptional. 93pts

Wine Spectator ReviewRated 88Soft and very sweet, with pretty spice and pineapple flavors, lingering gently. Riesling, Gewrztraminer and Muscat. Drink now.Wine Tasting NotesWhile Riesling supplies the weight of this wine with fresh pear, apricot and honey notes the Gewurztraminer and Viognier add spiciness and a luscious mouthfeel, respectively. We often describe our Ultima as indulgent and decadent, yet they are always kept in balance with crisp acidity and freshness. Historically these wines only grow in beauty with age. Potential for this wine with cool cellaring is up to twenty years.
