Elk Cove Pinot Noir Mt. Richmond 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

This is a lovely bottle from a vineyard planted in 1974. Its an almost-perfect mix of flower fruit and stone. It mixes the flavors elegantly into a wine that captures the elegance of the grape along with bright fruit crisp acids and just the right amount of herb. 91 PointsWine Enthusiast.

Elk Cove Vineyards is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected wine producers. Founded in 1974, by Pat and Joe Campbell, our focus has always been to produce hand crafted, Estate grown wines that can rival the best in the world. Estate Vineyards Estate vineyards now cover over 180 acres on four separate sites in the Northern Willamette Valley. Steep south facing slopes, of Willakenzie and Laurelwood soil types with excellent drainage, provide the perfect environment to grow the world class wine grapes that are the basis for creating Elk Cove wines. Proper site selection and meticulous vine management along with harvesting at very low yields creates the concentration and depth of flavor that are hallmarks of Elk Cove wines. Family Owned and Operated Elk Cove Vineyards proudly remains a family owned and operated winery. Winemaker Adam Godlee Campbell joined forces with his parents in 1995 to produce outstanding Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Growing up among the vines on the Elk Cove Estate has instilled a tremendous respect for the soil in which the grapes were grown, therefore his role as winemaker is one of stewardship over intervention. In the winery Adam employs gravity flow and gentle handling to protect the inherent qualities of the Estate grown fruit. We at Elk Cove hope you enjoy these wines as much as we all enjoyed the creative process in making them. Read less

Nice strawberry notes on the nose along with slight hints of white pepper and baking spice. Darker fruit tones on the palate, with light cola flavor along with strawberry, raspberry and huckleberry as well as some nice spice. Bits of sassafrass on the finish and some slightly bitter minerals. Almost a copper tone. Good acid. Should continue to evolve and improve for a few years yet. 2/8/12

Finally a pinot noir that has given Van Duzer a run for its money {in my opinion}. Pours a beautiful light ruby color, this wine is gorgeous in a glass. Light pepper and cedar on the nose, with a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel is wonderful, light and acidic, with some earth and as another review stated, a rustic, forest floor kind of vibe. light cranberry notes come through in the finish with a nice little bite from the alcohol. wonderful wine, would definately recommend to pinot lovers. orgeon you have never disappointed me.

I did not find this wine to be anything special. I definitely did not think it should have as high of a rating as it did. Me and my girlfriend both thought this vintage was too quiet and bland. Maybe a couple more years and some of the flavor will be brought to fruition but as for now I will not be buying this wine again.

Tangy, with a transparency to the berry and red plum fruit, finishing with an earthy bite. Drink now through 2012.

Good winemaking is evident here. This is clean and fresh, with light, appealing flavors of berry, cola and chocolate-covered espresso bean. The wine has a smooth, silky texture, and feels substantial without being fat or hot. It is certainly ageworthy and it wouldn't surprise me if it lasted a decade or more. But tough to keep your hands off it right now.

Firm in texture, with fine-grained tannins wrapped around a fragile core of raspberry and spice flavors. Drink now through 2005.

Deep, dark red. Concentrated cherry and molasses aromas are accented by a tarry, sweet tobacco character. Bitter cherry, licorice and espresso flavors, with strong suggestions of black pepper and violet. Today this bears more than a passing resemblance to tangy syrah. Finishes bright and high-toned, with strong raspberry and cracked pepper qualities, not unlike a good Cote-Rotie.

Bright medium-red color. Fresh raspberry and cherry preserves on the nose. Pliant, gently sweet red berry flavors are given a zesty kick by orange zest and dusty minerals, and gain weight with air. Broad, fleshy and clean on the raspberry-flavored finish. Straightforward and drinking well right now.

This opens right up into a lovely, expressive nose laden with cherry blossom, plum, vanilla and butterscotch. The core of sweet raspberry and cherry holds steady into a moderately tannic finish, etched with some green tannins and dried herbs. Smooth, silky and substantial, this relative value could cellar for another 6-8 years.

Deep red with a bright rim. Pure but subdued aromas of blackcurrant, cherry pit and rose petal. Juicy and penetrating but quite tight, even austere, hinting at musky dark fruits and succulent herbs. This youthful, concentrated wine offers little immediate sweetness but unwinds nicely with an hour or so of aeration.
