Editorial Reviews for Elk Cove Pinot Gris
This has improved since last time I tried it. It is now quite fragrant with dusty notes and soft spice tones adding some complexity to the slightly baked apple fruit. Smells a bit quartzy/steely with a touch of spearmint and an insinuation of cheese rind. Nice round entry with a wave of sweet pear and light pineapple fruit supported by bright acids and tinted with just a hint of dried tropical fruits. The nice clean finish has a touch of minerality and lingering ripe fruit tones that show a hint more citrus character. A very flavorful and balanced example of Pinot Gris that seems as ideally suited for casually summer sipping as it does for enjoying at the table. I would like to serve this with a nice spinach salad with toasted nuts, Brie and cranberries or perhaps with some Halibut sautéed with capers and green olives or grilled shrimp wrapped in prosciutto! 90pts
This is full or pressed flower notes, apple seeds, and pollen on the nose helping to frame the very crisp white fruit notes with a fine verdant freshness. On entry this is rich and round with pronounced acidity popping on the mid-palate. The flavors are somewhat low intensity with more of the apple seed and pollen tones found on the nose, and notes of dried fruit. The scale of this wine is modest, what is here is very nice but a little more flesh might not be a bad thing. A touch underwhelming today. 87pts
This is a rich Pinot Gris with tones of tropical fruit character. The nose offers up deep, sweet almost honied fruit tones and the palate is soft and rich with a hint of dried mango and papaya before turning more citrusy and bright on the long finish. Pretty big scaled but with wonderful balance. 88pts
Juicy, ripe pear and sweet peach with a dry finish
Sweet Citrus Crisp. Highly recommend.
I had this wine last summer and loved it.. and that's coming from a guy that usually drinks red. Very tasty!
I loved this wine from the get go. It's vibrant flavor was immediately apparent, and the finish was smooth and simple. Light fruity flavors without the sweet so none of the flavors were drowned out. This is now a permanent favorite.
Bananas and tropical fruit are strong in the aroma, with fried plantains and plums. The mouth is very bright and fruity.
Very crisp wine with flavors of lemons, peach, mango and pineapple. Very crisp and clean, with a mineral streak. Nice
Still drinking well. It has developed a bit more color and body as well as some complexity. Compared with a Del Rio '07 this was much more interesting.

Tangerine and pineapple on the nose, this wine gives a punch of fresh peach, ripe pear and a hint of anise on the palate. With a mouth-coating viscocity and a lush lingering finish, this is a serious white wine. - WinerypH: 3.12TA: 7.95Alc: 13 % v/v
Light and sleek, offering a satiny texture to the pear and floral flavors, which linger deftly and intently. Drink now.
Mouthwatering and brisk, this succulent gris has the scent of apple blossoms, its flavors giving the impression of a slice of crisp apple spritzed with lemon. A summer refresher, or a good pairing with petrale sole.
A fruit powered wine that leads with fresh pear, melon and tropical flavors. This Pinot Gris has low acids, with a hint of vanilla and coconut on the finish.

Drink now. 15,500 cases made. -HS I was surprised - perhaps simply due to the ubiquity of this grape in Oregon and my personal predilection for Pinot Blanc - to find that Elk Cove's 2012 Pinot Gris surpassed its Blanc counterpart in nuance as well as richness and finish. Here too, though, we have an exhibition of generous vintage virtues, with a fortunate absence of green apple acid such as handicapped so many 2010 and 2011 renditions of this cepage. Peachy fruit wreathed in smoke and honeysuckle billow across a lush, schmaltzy palate, while hints of orange rind, sage and brown spices lend invigoration and a lick of salty saliva-inducement to a lusciously lingering finish. This fantastic value should be relished at least through 2014. By employing a yeast strain cultured by Ste. Michelle, Elk Grove gets their Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc to ferment fo...
I’m always impressed by Elk Cove; the quality of this wine far surpasses the price. A strong backbone of clean minerality helps the light citrus, green apple and salty flavors shine. Always my choice over Pinot Grigio; enjoy this in its place — and trust me, you will enjoy it!
Hints of lemon, green apple and chalk all mingle in this lean gris’s aromatics; the flavors are racy, reflecting the vintage, with a salty zest to the finish that would pair well with prawns roasted in salt.
